Robbie Barkley
Indiana Lobbyist

Robbie Barkley joined The Third House Advocacy Group after reiring from The American Heart Association in June of 2005.  During her 17 years with AHA, she served in numerous capacities, developing a broad understanding of the not-for-profit world.

Ms. Barkley began her career with AHA in Kokomo, Indiana where she served an eight county region as Regional Director.  When her family moved to Indianapolis, she transferred to the Metro Region as Director of Communications.  She then became Vice President of Volunteer Resoueces and Training for the Indiana Affiliate of AHA.  When the American Heart Association became involved in Advocacy, she was named Vice President of Advocacy for Indiana

In June, 1998, Indiana joined Michigan and Illinois as the Midwest Affiliate of AHA, and Robbie was selected as Vice President of Advocacy for the three states, with staff in Springfield, IL and Lansing MI.  During the five years she held this position, she represented the states on the National AHA Advocacy Advisory Team, and worked closely with the AHA Office of Public Advocacy in Washington, D.C.

In 2003, the Midwest Affiliate merged with four other states. Robbie made the decision to devote her time to Indiana issues rather than travel seven states. She assumed the position of Senior Director of Public Policy for Indiana, continuing to work for  the health of all Hoosiers.  She was a member of the state team selected to attend the National Governor's Association first conference on Chronic Disease.  Along with ISDH, she helped form the Indiana Stroke Prevention Task Force.  She also represented AHA on the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Executive Board, the Indiana Tobacco Smart Policy Board, Office of Women's Health Advisory Board, Chronic Disease Advisory Board and the Coordinated School Health Advisory Council.

She developed and organized the first AHA Legislative Health Screening, which has been held for the past eight years. During her tenure with AHA,  she annually led a team of AHA volunteers and staff to AHA National Lobby Day in Washington, D.C.  She was honored by the American Heart Association with a Time, Feeling and Focus Award for outstanding staff member.

Robbie Barkley joined The Third House Advocacy Group in Government Affairs to work on her specialty area of not-for-profit issues.
